Confession of a formally blonde sports fan.....

I've gone back to my "roots" literally. For some people they haven't seen my true hair color in decades.

So now I thought it was time for a change. I don't know how long it will stay this way, but maybe just until I get bored with it.

Strawberry Shortcake.

I bought a 2lb package of Strawberries last week and enjoyed them everyday for lunch. Now the week is over and I know with well over a pound of strawberries left they're not going to make it another week.

So what to do???

Make strawberry shortcake with them, so that's what I did. I found a great recipe on the box of Bisquick.

1st Slice all the strawberries and put in a bowl of water and sugar, I used about 1/3 of a cup (I eyeballed it) disolved the sugar and let the strawberries sit for about an hour in the sugar water.

And for the shortcake recipe.

2 1/3 cups Bisquick mix
1/2 cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted

1. Heat oven to 425°F.
2. Mix in a medium bowl Bisquick mix, milk, 3 tablespoons sugar and the butter until soft dough forms. On ungreased cookie sheet, drop dough by 6 spoonfuls (I actually got 8 shortcakes.
3. Bake 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.
4. Split warm shortcakes; fill and top with strawberries and whipped cream.

Also for the whipped cream I cheated a little, I didn't whip my own I used Reddi Whip, it's still real whipped cream it just saves a couple of steps.

It was a great treat and a little taste of summer early. What made it even better it was cold and gloomy all day today, so this made a little bit of sunshine.

I arrived home today to a great surprise. A box in my mailbox. I got in the house, opened it up and found some wonderful goodies.

I got 2 skeins of Red Heart, in a pretty lavender and a multi pink color, 2 skeins of Deborah Norville Sock Yarn in a pretty blue and 2 skeins of I love this cotton in a pretty multi-blue/green/yellow/orange. And a fun pattern for Yoga Socks, I'm so going to make them.

Now I just have to figure what to do with it all. And also how to get the box away from the cat, she might be happier than I am...she loves cardboard.

Happy 1st Anniversary

I can't believe a year has past (well a year and 1 day) but where did it go, I just can't figure it out.

A lot has happened in the last 365 days, some which were good, and some which were bad, but all in all it's been a fabulous year, we've learned, we've grown and are already ahead of where we started.

We had a great anniversary weekend, we decided we just wanted a weekend to relax and not worry about anything so we wanted to stay local and do a few things in the area, we had a couple of great meals and a couple of fun days.

It started out with a night were we spent our wedding night, close to home but it didn't matter, all we care was the hotel had an indoor pool and a jacuzzi. Sunday afternoon we decided to go to the Yale Art Museum and wander around the campus, since it was 65 degrees out, it was a great day to wander around. For dinner we headed out to Texas Roadhouse for a giant side of beef and salad (you have to balance the meal somehow).

Monday we started with lunch at our favorite Indian Restaurant then off to the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, we knew the weather was going to be crappy so inside things were going to be a plus today. It was great we saw some dinosaurs other animals and rocks and gems.

I'm so happy we've got the first year down, since they say it's the hardest one to handle, now I know the next 99 are going to be fabulous!!!

After we cut it, and ate a piece (I can't say it was terrible, but it wasn't real good, the frosting held up, but the cake dried out.

Cake Pops.

I found the recipe for these lovely little things a while back on Bakerella and I knew I had to make them.

There are so many versions of Cake Pops and Bites the combinations are endless. I decided to make a little St. Patty's Day love, and who doesn't like GREEN cake!!

I used white cake mix and added green food color.

We spent the day today with our favorite little girl. We took Miss Jolie out to Toy's R Us (She had a gift card for $2) and really wanted to go use it. She made out really well with the $2.00, we ended up getting her a Pink Foam Soccer Ball, an Aqua Sand play set, and a bubble jump rope.

After Toy's R Us, we went down the road to everyones "favorite" restaurant. Friendly's. Doug even deceided he wanted to color with her. We had so much fun with her for the day, I love spending time with her. I can't belueve how big she's getting. Soon she'll be all grown up.

Men's take on knitting.

This was found on Ravelery.com and I thought it was too funny not to share.

I am not a knitter. I joined Ravelry to see where my girlfriend spends her time on the internet lol. In the 10 or so months that she’s been knitting I’ve been secretly/overtly observing and documenting this crazy thing called yarn and what it does to people. These things I know to be true.

1. Yarn is NOT string and should not be referred to as such.
2. Knitting needles are not sticks,stix, or styx.
3. Casting on is NOT a fishing metaphor.
4. Yarn comes in different weights, colors, styles. Kind of like drugs.
5. People dye their own yarn with varying degrees of success.
6. Knitting is taken everywhere. No exceptions are to be made.
7. Fun fur is frowned on by “real” knitters.
8. “Lemme just finish this round” is a lot like me saying “Lemme just finish this round of video games” fair enough
9. A collection of yarn is a “stash” much like drugs.
10. Yarn barf is actually a thing.
11. Ravelry has a weird economy of bartering. Yarn can be exchanged for other goods not related to yarn. ????? Weird.
12. There are knitting groups, where other like minded knitters knit together and (this part is an assumption) talk about how knitters should rule the world.
13. Do NOT sit on or around yarn left on the sofa. This will cause knitter in the other room to jump up and rescue said ball of yarn from your evil ass.
14. Thank goodness there are no shows about knitting on Primetime TV.
15. Stitch markers are NOT earrings.
16. Lots of knitters have kittehs. You know who also had them? Witches.
17. If I want something, “Did you want to go to the yarn store?” are the first words out of my mouth.
18. Yarn stores are populated by alpha knitters. Some stores are better than others. 19. Michaels is not a suitable substitute for a yarn store.
20. The needles that are attached with wire to each other, do not make good nunchuks.
21. Kitteh won’t chase a ball of yarn no matter how many balls you throw at his head.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies.

I bought the ingredients to make CCCC the other day, it really is the perfect weather for them, cold and dreary and February, nothing makes winter better than a warm choclate chip cookie.

So much to my surprise, while reading one of my favorite websites The Nest I found a receipe from a fellow Nestie's Blog and knew I just had to make these.

Double Love Chocolate Chip Cookies, I can't belive how good they came out, and how wonderful they taste.

All I can say is YUM!!!

I made a diaper cake for a friends baby shower this weekend. I really hope she likes it.

I found the easiest instructions on Plan the Perfect Baby Shower and it was very easy to follow.

I added a few of my own details, and made a blanket and baby washclothes to go with it.

I really hope she enjoys it all.

Mexican Stuffed Shells.

Thanks to The Nest I found a recipe for tonights dinner.

I thought it was interesting, a little different and I'm always up for a challenge. So Taco Stuffed Shells it was, but of course I had to change it a little bit.

I didn't use the cream cheese, and just used regular salsa and not the taco sauce (not a big fan)

But in all, I loved the way they came out. And I will make them again.

Here's my "directions"

Cook beef, peppers, onions.



Stuff Shells with meat mixture.


Add Cheese.


Then more cheese (sorry I like cheese)


Add Salsa, and yes more cheese.


Bake and then ENJOY!!
